Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2008

On 20th January 2008, Animesh, Bindu, Jinu, Matrena, Pratima and Rukhsar from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands ran the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon. Along with these 6 bright children were running 6 unique, uncompromising Indians who have stood against every kind of discrimination time and again. Amitav Ghosh, Aparna Sen, Konkona Sen Sharma, Shabana Azmi and Teesta Setalvad joined hands with The Foundation to spread the message of non- discrimination.

Never before in the history of the Mumbai Marathon have so many celebrities come together under the umbrella of one organisation.  Together with them were 15 representatives from the Leeds Metropolitan University, UK, who work to melt boundaries through sport.

The SCMM is the seminal community event in the country and a model that a lot of similar initiatives can be emulated from. It has proved to be a platform where people from across cultures come together to share what they believe in. The Foundation participated in the SCMM'08 to underscore the ethos of non-discrimination in the country, a cause that forms the raison d'etre of the organization.
